We are happy to announce the launching of our new raptor photography hide

December 2017

This month we are happy to announce the launching of our new raptor photography hide in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria, which we manage together with a local game reserve. The Rhodope Mountains is a magnificent area in southern Bulgaria, close to the border with Greece. The eastern part of the mountain is known as one of Europe’s biodiversity hotspots and a raptor heaven. Here, in a landscape of jagged peaks, towering cliffs and sparsely vegetated, boulder-strewn slopes, one of the most spectacular bird residents are the Eurasian Griffon Vultures. They are also regular visitors of the feeding area in front of the hide.

The new hide is quite comfortable, with a toilet, two beds and a gas heater in winter. The hide has a north orientation and can accommodate six photographers.

Apart from the photography of the Eurasian Griffon Vulture, the hide provides very good opportunities to take pictures of Egyptian Vulture (from late March till mid-September), Black Kite and Raven, as well as chances for Eurasian Black Vulture, White-tailed Eagle and Golden Eagle.
